By god, The Daily Show has been absolutely brilliant the last 2 weeks.

McCain's acceptance speech: woooow. Every daily show episode is free to watch online. Seriously, watch it!

Edit: I get some random thoughts at 5 in the morning. Tonights: I think New Zealand is the most interesting country I know nothing about.

Let the light shine (for just one more day...)
(That is indeed sweat, I am drenched in sweat, this is a very physical sport)
More images behind this cut )
The owners gave me a new old stock passport with my original (Very first ever) ID number... (I had it memorized form when I played a LOT for the days I forgot it, and wanted my scores to go in the database.)

When I saw what he handed me, I just teared up. I went to the rental car and cried like a baby.

Current Location: Hotel room - Tulsa, Ok.

Disasters in Backwards Compatibility (Sendmail)

Okay, so I have a redhat 9 box in new york, with a whopping ten gigs of hard drive space. It's a cobalt raq3, and it's basically a spare DNS server, and Nagios box for me.

I recently discovered something ugly. There was no "postmaster" user on this system. Which is fine. /etc/aliases usually redirects that to root.

Except...there was no aliases file.

Picture this for a moment. "Postmaster" is the user that gets a notification whenever there's a delivery failure. Even when there's a failure delivering to "postmaster". Which in turn causes a failure...which causes postmaster to get a notification that that failed.

Yeah, headache, that.

So I try to rebuild the aliases file, and I get newaliases: no database format defined

Apparently, this version of sendmail doesn't actually link against an installed database engine.

So I go, attempt to download a new clean version of BerkeleyDB...only to find that a) the oracle site is down and not responding. I trace down another location for the file, and then I get to have FUN trying to get sendmail to notice that these libraries exist.

Apparently, a good number of the howto's out there are dead fucking wrong about this.

Also, couple this with the fact that Sendmail doesn't use your standard configure, make, make install procedure. It has a shell script in there called "Build". With no clear documentation. And once you run it, it magically holds on to your settings that you've run it with. There's no "make clean" option. Every time it didn't work, I got to blow away and reinstall the fucking thing.

I'm kind of where I want to be now -- although I'm kind of spoiled by BSD, and the ability to have my .mc file in /etc/mail and a nice makefile that just does anything I need it to.

I'd probably like to get StartTLS working on this thing, just so I can say I can....but I'm just happy to get the shit working.

Next: Building a new BIND. Headdesk

Xydexx's Axiom Of Fandom Enjoyability, Part 6
Upon waking up this morning I thought of an excellent summary of Xydexx's Axiom of Fandom Enjoyability:

It's better to be a silly squeaky pony than a bitter old dinosaur.

Yeah, that's it. No offense intended to anyone with a dinosaur fursona. Heh.

As many times as this gets asked, this is now all the answer she needs
DEAR AMY: My fiancee and I are getting ready to send invitations for our wedding.

We are both older than 40 and have no children. She was married before.

Without sounding greedy and rude, can we ask for money on the invitation, or should we just assume that people will know we don't need any household stuff?

Is there a "polite" way to say we don't want plates or toasters, etc., but could use some "greenbacks"? -- Worried

DEAR WORRIED: No.

2380: Jackass Canyon
So Char asked the usual if we were going out to dinner thing and suggested Amphora, and I informed him that if he wanted to go, he should call up Fawx, who agreed to meet up with us there if ever we should decide to go. He did, and we went.

Around exit 6 southbound 270, there was a THREE CAR PILE-UP that blocked all four lanes. XO I shit you not, they put the police cars blocking off all lanes, and THREE fire engines drove down to see to the mess. What the hell?! I got a photo [which you prolly noticed first, given the way this thing works], and it's--amazingly--the first nighttime picture I've taken with that camera that hasn't blurred all to shit:

What we can only piece together is the wreckage covered all four lanes and was a hazard, so they needed the fire engines to clear out the debris, a piece of which I ended up rolling over because I didn't see it until too late. It didn't hurt the car any more than it already has been, tho =/ I think my shocks are going or something. Anyway, that was twenty-some minutes wasted... 9_9

For the record, I had a nice spinach ravioli--not quite $12 nice, but I told myself I should eat something mildly better than the crap I'd eaten all week, even if a burger would've been half the price, cake 1/4th =/ Amphora has unsecure wireless Internet, tho! ::^^:: which made for some bored searches [which reminds me, I changed my password for Twitter and apparently forgot it... pw lookup on mobile at 1200 baud is a pain, tho].

On the way back, there was this old lady who failed to yield [I mean charged into the road, no lick of attention to whether I was there] and nearly hit me, then tried to stay in my blind spot. I hate that, how I'll speed up or slow down--either way, there's some fucker in my blind spot who won't let me in. I also had every reason to blare my horn when she failed to yield, but I'm too Japanese =p I just don't have even the instinct in me to honk, though it only encourages bad drivers to keep driving bad--"Hey, it must've been okay, since they didn't honk!" >_<

So--uh, this is Tuesday I'm talking about and forgot to mention--while at the mall, I noticed they have a new limited-edition not orange but PUMPKIN Build-a-BearCat-Thing! =p It's... funny, actually. It must be the Neojank influence, but I actually don't find it entirely gadawful, even though some nagging at the back of my mind says it should be entirely gadawful. [I suppose after "paint" colours like Disco, Strawberry, or Durian, Pumpkin seems almost kind of normal...] Yes, of all the thousand mew pictures I could post that I haven't yet, I post the one of a decidedly NOT REAL one :/

I also gladly hop on the Google Chrome bandwagon. It's................. No, I have no idea how that sentence is supposed to go. Though, I guess it loads all of Gaijin Smash, where Firefox for some reason won't, so that's all I could ask for as a second-browser replacement for the why-does-it-suck-so-much Seamonkey. [I need a second browser so I'm not constantly logging out of my main account on Neojank to get to my side accounts, and so I don't have to sign out of Yahoo! mail at ALL.]

Actually, having said that, Firefox loads it just fine now \=' but... Seamonkey still sucks. So.
